For more than a century, the Old Church on Main has stood as part of Carlin’s story. Generations gathered within its walls, celebrated important moments there, and made memories that became part of our community’s history.

The Carlin Heritage and Performing Arts Center Project is a community effort to restore the historic Old Church on Main and transform it into a vibrant heritage, performing arts, and community center.

The restored building is envisioned as a place for:

• Live music and performances
• Theater and community productions
• Historical and cultural exhibits
• Educational programs and workshops
• Youth arts activities
• Community meetings
• Celebrations and special events
• Heritage programs and festivals

We aren’t simply saving an old building.

We’re giving it a reason to stand for another century.

A LANDMARK WORTH SAVING

The Old Church on Main has been part of Carlin for more than a century.

The present church was constructed beginning in 1910 following the destruction of the community’s earlier Catholic church by fire. Dedicated in 1912, the building served generations of Carlin residents before eventually closing as a church.

When its future became uncertain, the Carlin community stepped forward to save it.

The City of Carlin acquired the property in 2019, ensuring that this important piece of Carlin’s history would have another chance.

Today, the Carlin Historical Society, in partnership with the City of Carlin, is working to make that future possible.

THE WORK HAS ALREADY BEGUN

Saving the Old Church on Main is no longer simply an idea.

Important steps have already been completed, including historic preservation planning, architectural and structural assessments, hazardous materials testing and abatement, and preparation for the next phases of stabilization and restoration.

Grant funding, community support, volunteer labor, and private contributions have already moved the project forward.

But there is much more to do. The next chapters of this story depend on all of us.
